Meet Tahsha Pratt, Executive Director NZ Chamber

Tahsha Pratt,  Executive Director New Zealand Chamber of Commerce- Singapore.

A bit about me: Before moving to Singapore I worked for True Alliance, an Apparel, Footwear, and Accessory distributor of Global Premium Brands, overseeing the New Zealand and Australian Markets; spanning, Marketing, Sales and L&D.

I’m in my final year of Studying a bachelor's degree, in Business and HR. I had planned on fast-tracking my studies and completing this during Covid lockdowns, but Kids and Hubby at home diverted my focus to Sourdough baking and locating yeast, and long, long, walks and biking around Singapore.

Briefly what is your role? Connecting people and facilitating opportunities that Grow Relationships and Build Businesses. Other peoples’ success is personal to me. I’d like to think that what we provide through the chamber plays a part in strengthening partnerships and offering a vehicle for others to prosper upon, with a subtle nod or prominent call out to New Zealand where possible.

Any advice for doing business in Singapore and/or the region? Not specific to the region, but I believe success looks like: Knowing your businesses’ strengths, your personal limitations, and your competitors’ advantages, not just their disadvantages.

But most of all - Be Ready. Ready To Grow. Adapt. Listen. And ask for help.

A great benefit in business can be that “ Only you (or your company) know what you know” - but remember this can be flipped to  “You only know what you know”, and surrounding yourself with people who have walked your (intended ) path can enhance your journey. NZTE for example, with their skills and knowledge can be the difference between surviving and prospering in a new market.

When did you move to Singapore? Where from? My Husband and twin daughters and I moved from Sydney in the pre-covid dreamy period of December 2019. I’ve also lived in Melbourne, and my work saw me spend a lot of time in USA.

Where were you born? What country do you call home? I was born in Wollongong, South of Sydney, Australia. It will always be home, as it’s where I first fell in love with the ocean, a special place I feel most connected to.

What do you like most about Singapore? It’s clichéd but the food! So much so that I voluntarily commenced free walking foodie tours of Tiong Bahru!

What do you do to relax? See above! Along with walking our little beagle Tassy, hosting family from abroad, and catching up with friends in group sizes bigger than 5! Oh and Podcasts. I love Podcasts. Recommendations always welcome.

What's top of your bucket list? Taking my Mum on a trek through Papua New Guinea where my Pa (her father) defended the region in WW2. Again, more about witnessing her joy, and acknowledging what the ANZAC’s did for us.

Why did you join the New Zealand Chamber (Singapore) and what do you like most about it? The variety in the role excited me, as did the ethos of Connect. Promote. Grow.

Also, the people, the few that I’ve met so far are great, and I can’t wait to immerse myself in every aspect.

Any last words? Yes- Get in touch! I plan on reaching out to you all sometime soon, but in the meantime, I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback!
