Inside the Chamber: A Summer Internship Experience

By: Melissa Holck, with contributions from the Chamber's Summer Interns

This summer, the Chamber team was joined by two fantastic interns, Sophie Holme and Luke Bramley, who brought fresh ideas, lots of energy, and a good dose of humour to the office. Over six weeks, they dived into projects big and small, supported our members, and played a huge role in making the Annual Ball such a success.

For Sophie, the internship was all about variety:

“My time here gave me a balance of supporting day-to-day business activities while also contributing to one of the Chamber’s most exciting events of the year,” she shared.

From sitting in on board meetings (“insightful and inspiring”) to teaming up with Luke to improve the Chamber website, Sophie embraced every opportunity. And of course, there was the Ball:

“One of the highlights of my internship was helping to prepare for the annual Ball… Being part of such a special event, and seeing it all come together, was incredibly rewarding.”

Luke also threw himself straight into Chamber life, though he admits it started with some trial and error:

“Getting to grips with the website platform took a lot of trial and error, but after some persistence, I found my footing,” he said with a smile.

With Sophie’s detailed update list in hand, he tackled refreshing the website, helped set up auction prizes on Galabid, and even chased up expiring memberships (a true Chamber hero!).

Like Sophie, the Ball was a standout moment for Luke:

“It was not only an enjoyable event, but a great opportunity to meet business professionals and gain a deeper appreciation of the Chamber’s role in fostering connections.”

Both interns agreed that what made the experience so memorable was the people. Sophie described the Chamber team as “welcoming” and said,

“I learned so much from two professionals who shared their knowledge and advice throughout my time here.”

Luke echoed this sentiment, adding:

“Most importantly, I found the Chamber to have a welcoming and supportive culture, which made my time here both rewarding and enjoyable.”

We couldn’t be happier with the contributions Sophie and Luke made during their internships. From website fixes to Ball magic, they left their mark on the Chamber — and on us! We wish them both the very best as they take their next steps, and we’ll be cheering them on.

Special thanks to interns Sophie Holme and Luke Bramley for sharing their reflections.
