Member of the Month – December

Author: Danica Burke

This month we have the pleasure of speaking with Rebecca Assice, Virtual Room Asia Pacific, Owner and Director.

Briefly what is your role? My role is to bring our incredible and world first team-based virtual reality adventure to the mass market in Singapore – friends, families, corporate team bonding etc.

Any advice for doing business in Singapore and/or the region? Network as much as you can at events where you meet real people. Word of mouth is very important here.

When did you move to Singapore? Where from? Almost 7 years ago. I lived in Sydney for 10 years before that.

Where were you born? What country do you call home? I am from Auckland, NZ – so I guess that’s officially home (and we do love to visit). But we are so international now it’s hard to say where we think our real home is. I am a kiwi, who met my French husband in Sydney and had my 2 French / Italian / Lebanese / Kiwi kids in Singapore!

What do you like most about Singapore? The lifestyle is incredible for young families and yet we can still have a fabulous adult social life with lots of wonderful dining and entertainment options. The travel opportunities are amazing and I must admit I do like warm weather all year around.

What do you do to relax? Wine. Bubbles. Wine! Love a good kiwi Pinot or a lovely bottle of French bubbly. Paired with cheese of course!

What’s top of your bucket list? I really would love to see the Northern Lights in Finland. I did my University thesis on a comparative study of Finland and NZ’s IT industries so learnt a lot about the country – but have yet to visit!

Why did you join the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (Singapore) and what do you like most about it? We just launched Virtual Room in October and after 3 years of working remotely on businesses in Australia and NZ it was time to put myself out into the business community again. For me the networking opportunities + a little reminder of home every time I go to one are the best parts.

Any last words? Do yourself a favour and try Virtual Room – it really will blow your mind! And we have a 20% discount for NZCC members.
